Philippa Charlton

Chief Marketing Officer Lloyd’s Register Group

Philippa Charlton became Chief Marketing Officer of Lloyd’s Register in February 2021, joining the Executive Leadership team. She previously served as Marketing Director of LR's Business Assurance division.

Before LR, Philippa was CMO at Averda, a global waste management company, and Group Marketing Director at a global security business. Her earlier career included roles in the Paper and Plastics industry.

Additionally, Philippa is the Lloyd’s Register Group’s appointed Executive Sponsor for the Hub. In this capacity, she ensures that the Hub has the requisite benefit-in-kind functional support from the Lloyd’s Register Group, allowing the Hub to preserve its funding for program work. She also ensures that the programs undertaken by the Hub may leverage the global SME and industry footprint of the Lloyd’s Register Group, to amplify and multiply impact.

Andrew McKeran is the Chief Commercial Officer at Lloyd’s Register, responsible for developing and executing strategies to position LR as a trusted maritime advisor. He combines technical expertise with digital capabilities to deliver value-added solutions for clients.

Andy joined LR as Commercial Director for Marine and Offshore in February 2019. With over 20 years of experience in the marine, offshore, and naval sectors, he has held various global roles in companies like Cegelec, Alstom, Converteam, and General Electric since starting his maritime career in 1998.

Jan is the Director of Technologies at Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF), responsible for enhancing safety through high technical standards.

He serves on several boards, including Discovering Safety, Engineering X’s Safer Complex Systems, LR Maritime Decarbonisation Hub, Assuring Autonomy International Programme, Net Zero Oceanographic Capability, and UKRI’s Trusted Autonomous Systems.

Jan represents LRF on the board of Safetytech Accelerator Ltd. He holds a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Imperial College London, is a Chartered Engineer, a member of the Institute for Materials, Mining, and Minerals (IOM3), and has over 25 years of professional engineering experience.

Dean is the Chief Operating Officer for the Lloyd’s Register Foundation with primary responsibilities for Finance and Governance within the organisation.

He is a senior leader and finance professional with strong operations experience gained working in executive and advisory roles with private, not for profit and charitable organisations. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).

At Catalytic, David Albertani leads the efforts in setting up new blended financial vehicles dedicated to sustainable infrastructure and oversees Technical Assistance implementation from Catalytic. Among other Catalytic programs, Mr. Albertani has been leading the setup of the Subnational Climate Fund (SCF), targeting the implementation of a 750 MUSD blended finance vehicle for subnational sustainable infrastructure. Mr. Albertani also successfully managed a waste management program in Oran, Algeria which got him official recognition from the Algerian authorities.

Mr. Albertani is an expert in waste and energy infrastructure project preparation and use its project financing skills to bring projects to bankability. Previously, he was a scientific associate in the mathematics department at the University of Geneva. He specialized in the field of probabilities and mechanical statistics where he published scientific articles on correlation estimates. He has been member of the council of the Swiss Doctoral Program of Mathematics.

Chief Sustainability & Energy Transition Officer, Swire Shipping

Susana Germino is Chief Sustainability & Energy Transition Officer for Swire Shipping and its sister company, Swire Bulk. She previously held the position of General Manager - Decarbonisation and Environmental Compliance in February 2022, before taking on this expanded portfolio in November of the same year.

Susana has been with the Swire group since 2012, first as General Manager of Steamships Shipping in Papua New Guinea, and then as General Manager of Swire Bulk Logistics. In 2019, she moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, to serve as Chief Executive Officer of PT Mitrabahtera Segara Sejati Tbk.

Susana represents John Swire & Sons on the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping as a member of the R&D advisory board.

Susana is a naval architect by training and prior to working in Swire Shipping, she worked for class, technical and commercial management.

Shipping Lawyer and Advisor, Blue Economy - Executive Office of the President of Kenya

Ambassador Nancy W. Karigithu is a distinguished Kenyan maritime expert with over three decades of experience in the maritime industry. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s in International Maritime Law from the IMO International Maritime Law Institute in Malta. Throughout her career, Amb. Karigithu has held pivotal roles, including serving as the Director General of the Kenya Maritime Authority for nine years, where she was instrumental in updating Kenya’s maritime legal framework and advising the government on maritime issues. She also served as the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Shipping and Maritime within Kenya’s Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development, and Public Works.

In addition to her national contributions, Amb. Karigithu has been actively involved in international maritime affairs. She has served as the Chair of the International Maritime Organization’s Technical Cooperation Committee for three terms and is a member of the Board of Governors of the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden. Her commitment to inclusivity and diversity is evident through her role in establishing the Association of Women in the Maritime Sector in Eastern & Southern Africa (WOMESA), where she served two terms as Chairperson and continues to sit on the governing council. In 2023, she was Kenya’s candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, underscoring her dedication to advancing global maritime interests.

Susanne Kindt serves as Vice President, Head of Engineering Two-Stroke Business at MAN Energy Solutions in Copenhagen. She oversees Two-Stroke Engineering and Four-Stroke small bore gensets (Holeby gensets), driving innovation and technical excellence in these areas. With over 30 years at MAN Energy Solutions, Susanne has held a range of leadership positions in Copenhagen, including Senior Manager of Design Large Bore, Two-Stroke Engineering, and Senior Manager of Engine Mechanical Development within Two-Stroke Research & Development.

Susanne holds a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and an Executive Degree in Strategy Development from Copenhagen Business School. She has also completed the General Management Program at Oxford Saïd Business School in the UK.

During her early years, she lived in various Asian countries, which contributed to her extensive knowledge and understanding of Eastern cultures. In her personal life, Susanne is a proud mother of four children and a bonus-child, as well as a grandmother to five grandchildren, with whom she cherishes spending quality time.

Captain John Lloyd has been Chief Executive of The Nautical Institute since May 2017 having originally joined the Institute in 2015 as Chief Operating Officer.

Previously he was Professor, Maritime Training at the Australian Maritime College (AMC). In 2014 he inaugurated a new maritime college in Angola following a two-year development programme developed in conjunction with the City of Glasgow College and Sonangol Shipping.

Prior to this he held appointments as: Chief Executive Officer of the Vanuatu Maritime College in Santo, Vanuatu; and senior posts at Flagship Training Limited and Warsash Maritime Centre.

John is a Master Mariner and served as a Marine Pilot in Namibia from 1994 – 1995. He is a Master of Business Administration, a Freeman of the (UK) Honourable Company of Master Mariners, a Younger Brother of Trinity House and a Chartered Master Mariner.

Since joining The Nautical Institute John has introduced a series of professional development short courses attracting a substantial amount of international interest, a new qualification for engineering and technical staff on DP vessels and has recently started working more closely on key safety issues in the fishing sector.

In September 2023, John was awarded the (UK) Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service for his contribution to maritime training and education, an award presented by HRH The Princess Royal at Trinity House, London.

Dr Antonis Michail is an engineer in background with specialisation on the environmental management of ports and freight transport systems at Master and PhD level, and with more than 15 years of professional experience in these fields.

Since February 2018, Antonis joined the World Ports Sustainability Program (WPSP) of the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) as the person responsible for the technical developments and projects under the umbrella of the program. Before that, Antonis was holding the position of Senior Policy Advisor on sustainability and safety matters at the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) from 2009 to 2017. Since back in 2003, Antonis was involved in the EcoPorts network of ports from various posts, including managing projects and coordinating the network’s activities and development until 2017.

Claudene joined the marine industry over 30 years ago, having wide experience in maritime, shipping, salvage/MCI, upstream oil and Gas, and wind installation/MWS, Terminal operations, assurance and Oil and Gas/renewable industries in various roles and senior management positions. Claudene started her career as a sea-going Marine Engineering with BHP on dry-bulk carriers, ROROs, Container Vessels and Chemical tankers, transferring onto Oil and LNG vessels with Shell UK and primarily with BP Shipping. However, never one to stop during leave periods continued building experience on General cargo vessels and passenger ships. Although holding a Bachelor of Technology (Marine Engineering) and Combined Chief Engineer (Motor and Steam), Claudene continued studying obtaining an MBA in Maritime Law and Logistics Management.

Although Claudene’s background is technical, her training in her shore career in Shipping companies and energy companies support the understanding of shipping, terminal operations/activities and marine activities, has assisted seeing these operations holistically and impactfully. Claudene’s more recent roles as Global Technical Director Lloyd’s Register, and Shell Australia Prelude (Prelude Marine Terminal Coordinator) further adds to her understanding of current Marine and Offshore roles, activities and operations. Claudene’s current role as Global Technical Director for Lloyds Register allows an input in the strategy and technical requirements for the industry both legislated or required through IMO/IACS and supporting customers and the industry find safe technical solutions within Decarbonisation, Digitalisation, Marine safety assurance and Offshore Safety Assurance.

Claudene is a Fellow of IMarEST and served for 6 years as Vice President and culminating as Vice Chair of Technical Leadership Board of IMarEST. Claudene was previously a registered consultant to IMO, and has been continuously active within OCIMF in several groups/working groups including Representative at GPC, Vice Chairman of OCIMF Technical Group, and member of SIRE Focus Group. These experiences bringing a wide understanding of incidents, consequences, legislation, regulations and implementation.
